GP Portfolio made simple

Every part of the GP training portfolio, explained by training year in plain English, with twelve free tools that keep you on track. Private by design: nothing you type leaves your browser.

The big pictureWhat the portfolio is for

GP training has no single final exam that proves you can do the job. Three strands are combined: WPBA (workplace-based assessment: what you do in real practice, observed and judged, and what you write about your learning), the AKT (what you know) and the SCA (how you consult). The portfolio holds the WPBA strand and records the other two.

Everything in it should help a reader answer one question: is this registrar making the expected progress in each of the 13 capabilities?

ARCP in one pictureHow evidence becomes an outcome

1

Evidence, all year

Case reviews, COTs, CATs, CEPS, feedback, QI and certificates, little and often.

2

CSR each post

Your clinical supervisor reports on the capabilities seen in that post.

3

ESR every 6 months

Your educational supervisor reviews everything and rates all 13 capabilities.

4

ARCP panel

Yearly. Reads the ESR (within 2 months before) and the portfolio, then gives an outcome.

5

Outcome

1 progress6 complete2 targets3 extra time5 evidence missing

Most avoidable non-standard outcomes come from missing evidence or late reviews, not from poor doctoring. Read the ARCP guide and run the readiness check.

Your year at a glanceEvery requirement, with minimums

Set up My training once and every tool in this section uses it: ST year, start date, LTFT percentage, ESR and ARCP dates. It stays in this browser.

Help and FAQs

The golden rulesFour things that matter most

  • The portfolio is yours. Supervisors help, but you book, chase and track.
  • Little and often beats a last-month rush. Panels and supervisors notice bunching.
  • Quality beats volume once the minimums are met: a reflective log that shows changed practice is worth more than three summaries.
  • Anonymise everything.

Do this now

Put your ESR and ARCP dates (from your deanery) into My training above, then open the Month-by-Month Planner and work backwards.

Not affiliated with the RCGP or FourteenFish; requirements change — always check the current RCGP WPBA pages and your deanery.
