What is needed
- CPR and AED: in-person training every 12 months, adult and paediatric (unless you had no exposure to children in that period). Online-only courses are not accepted. If your ILS is adult-only, add a BLS course with paediatric content. Some deaneries want it valid beyond your CCT date at the final ARCP.
- Safeguarding: see Safeguarding.
- Courses and teaching: upload certificates to supporting documentation with a short note of learning.
- OOH session records: date, setting, hours, supervisor.
- Exam results.
The numbers by year
| Requirement | ST1 | ST2 | ST3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPR and AED competence | 1 per year | 1 per year | 1 per year |
| Annual safeguarding knowledge update (adult and child) | 1 per year | 1 per year | 1 per year |
Full time, per training year unless stated. Less than full time: per-year totals stay the same and each 6-month review needs a pro rata share; 6-monthly ESRs and 12-monthly certificates are not pro rata. Check with your deanery and educational supervisor.
Notes on these numbers
- CPR and AED competence, LTFT: Not pro rata: every 12 calendar months.
- Annual safeguarding knowledge update (adult and child), LTFT: Not pro rata: every 12 calendar months.
How to do it well
- Upload to the right place (supporting documentation, or the compliance area your deanery uses).
- Name files clearly, for example "2026-09 CPR AED adult+paeds.pdf".
- Put renewal dates in your calendar one month before expiry (the planner can export them).
- Check that a certificate will still be in date on the ARCP date, not just the ESR date.
Common ARCP pitfalls
- Expired CPR or safeguarding update: mandatory and not pro rata.
- Online-only resuscitation training.
- Adult-only training without paediatric content.
- Certificates uploaded with no date in the title.
