Role-play packs

The gold standard of SCA preparation is still three people and a timer: one consults, one plays the patient, one marks. Every Hot Seat case as a printable two-card pack — a patient card with the script and the cues to plant, and an examiner card with the marking scheme. The candidate sees neither.

1 · CandidateGets only the case title and the medical-record brief (in The Hot Seat, or read aloud by the examiner). 3 minutes to prepare, 12 to consult.

2 · PatientPrints the amber card. Plays it straight — answers what's asked, volunteers the opening line, and plants each cue once. Don't rescue the candidate.

3 · ExaminerPrints the blue card. Ticks behaviours as they happen, grades the three domains at the buzzer, then debriefs: two strengths first, then one thing to change.
